Biography
Elton Rankin was one of two survivors of a 1976 Houston police shooting during a car chase that killed Overtone Wayne Ellis and Allan Charles Best. A bullet grazed Rankin’s head. Police beat him at the scene and again after taking him to the Houston city jail, then charged him with five counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer even though the surviving witnesses said the occupants had fired no shots. The contemporary report does not state the exact arrest or release date or the final disposition.
