Biography
Elinor Henderson organized agricultural workers during the 1934 Seabrook Farms strike in New Jersey. Police sought her arrest after reporting explosives at the organizers' home, and she was arrested in July amid the crackdown on the strike. Henderson and her husband Donald faced repeated arrests, raids on their home and attacks by company guards. Farmworkers' organizations and the International Labor Defense supported the campaign against their prosecution.
Daily Worker, July 10, 1934: Pages 1–2 individually name her as seized and rushed to jail with Donald Henderson during the Seabrook Farms strike confrontation. This confirms actual detention within the July 1934 crackdown already recorded; an undated bulletin’s “today” is not converted into an exact arrest date. No conviction, sentence or release is reported. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n164-jul-10-1934-DW-LOC.pdf
The July 11 Bridgeton editorial individually lists Elinor with Donald Henderson, Vivian Dahl and Lief Dahl as seized on conspiracy charges during the Seabrook strike. This corroborates actual custody already established in the July 10 report; it is not another arrest dated from publication. Daily Worker, July 11, 1934, page 6.
