Biography

Edward McGowan was a Jesuit (13 years), age 36 at indictment, resident of Woodstock College and a Bronx native considered an expert on American Indian affairs. Worked with Fr. Philip Berrigan in a Baltimore ghetto parish, participated in draft-board raids with the New York 8, and was active with the Harrisburg Defense Committee. Acquitted in 1973.

The September 8, 1971 arrest processing report also identifies him as a Roman Catholic priest in the Society of Jesus and gives New York City as birthplace. This is cited for identification information without adopting the report’s criminal allegations.
