Biography

E. J. Parker Sage was a Detroit organizer who founded the National Workers League in 1938. The group promoted racist, antisemitic, and anti-union politics. Contemporary reporting linked Sage and fellow league organizer Garland Alderman to agitation against the Sojourner Truth housing project for Black workers in 1942. He was named in the January 3, 1944 Washington indictment alleging conspiracy to undermine military loyalty under the Smith Act. The mass trial ended in a mistrial on December 7, 1944. The indictment was dismissed in December 1946; no conviction resulted in this case.
