Biography

Donald M. Smith was a Bates College Socialist student who helped organize a League for Industrial Democracy chapter and a Socialist local in Lewiston and Auburn, Maine. Paul Porter’s January 9, 1932 New Leader conference report explicitly says Smith and MIT Socialist student William Montgomery were arrested for picketing during the Lawrence, Massachusetts textile strike. It supplies no individual arrest day, statutory charge, jail, sentence or release. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/new-leader/1932/v13n02-jan-09-1932-NL.pdf#page=4
