Biography
Donald Hunter was one of the Camp Pendleton 14, Black Marines arrested after a November 13, 1976 confrontation with Marines they believed were attending a Ku Klux Klan meeting on the base. Hunter was confined in the Camp Pendleton brig while the court-martial proceeded. He received a six-month sentence. The available records do not establish his exact release date or how much of that sentence he served.
Hunter pleaded guilty to conspiracy and simple assault in the Camp Pendleton 14 case. Contemporary reporting described a six-month sentence at hard labor, a bad-conduct discharge and reduction in rank, under a pretrial agreement. In court he said organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan could not be tolerated.
