Biography
Black man convicted of second-degree murder by an all-white jury in Elmira, N.Y. (arrested March 7, 1977) in a case a co-defendant's letter to The Black Panther Vol. 18 no.5 (1978) describes as a frame-up, with negative forensic evidence and discredited paid witnesses.
Goodwin’s co-defendant Robert A. Tucker described their Elmira prosecution in a letter published in February 1978. Tucker alleged that forensic tests failed to connect them to the crime, witnesses were pressured or paid, and an all-white jury convicted them despite conflicting testimony. He said both defendants rejected offers to change their accounts in exchange for reduced charges or release. These are the co-defendant’s allegations, not an independently established court finding.
