A 39-year-old Chicana activist in Del Rio, Texas facing a 13-count federal indictment (up to 65 years) for allegedly inducing Mexican nationals to enter the U.S., a prosecution the paper calls trumped-up. The Black Panther Vol. 18 no.2 (1978).
The January 1978 report states that Gonzalez had been released on $20,000 bond while awaiting trial on thirteen federal counts alleging that she encouraged Mexican nationals to enter the United States. The threatened sixty-five years was a possible sentence, not a term she had served.
