Biography

Marshall describes Sheean as a Galena, Illinois lawyer arrested on August 28, 1862 on an order alleging disloyal practices. He connects the arrest to Sheean's legal action against local men for a client's false imprisonment. Sheean was confined at Fort Lafayette and refused an oath or parole he thought implied wrongdoing. The narrative says he was unconditionally discharged the day after his December 13, 1862 refusal of parole. Source: John A.
