Biography
David Michael Ansberry, a veteran of Colorado’s STP counterculture community, placed a radio-controlled explosive device in a backpack at the Nederland Police Station on October 11, 2016 and attempted to detonate it from across the street. The detonation failed. Investigators identified Ansberry through surveillance video, cellular records and purchases connected to the device. He said the act was retaliation for the 1971 killing of his friend Guy Gaughnor by a former Nederland marshal. Ansberry pleaded guilty to attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction against a person or property in the United States and was sentenced to 324 months in federal prison.
