Biography
David Kerr Morton was a twenty-one-year-old folk singer and writer arrested in Jackson, Mississippi on June 11, 1961 after a Nashville-to-Jackson Freedom Ride. His birth year, about 1940, is derived from his reported age at arrest. The Civil Rights Digital Library holds his named arrest photograph but does not establish his disposition or release, so those fields are unresolved.
The jointly filed petition individually lists this rider and explicitly states that all petitioners entered pleas of not guilty for their Hinds County Court trials de novo. The previously blank plea field records that county-trial plea only; it does not change the later disposition or establish physical custody dates.
