Biography

David Jackson was one of three people the Daily Worker, page 3, identifies as arrested and still jailed after resistance to the eviction of Maggie Morgan, a Black widow, in Columbus. Its January 20 Columbus, Ohio dispatch says sheriff’s deputies removed her furniture on Wednesday, workers returned it, and police arrested Morgan, David Jackson and Charles Hendrix. Wednesday corresponds to January 16, 1935. The article’s concluding appeal confusingly prints Columbus, Georgia; the principal dateline explicitly says Ohio. No charges, sentence, release or duration is supplied. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1935/v12-n018-Nat-jan-21-1935-DW-LOC.pdf

A Columbus report identified Jackson as a League of Struggle for Negro Rights activist and vice-chairman of the Marion Township unemployment organization. He was among defendants prosecuted after opposing the eviction of a widow identified as Mrs. Morgan on Stambaugh Avenue; the report announced a March 4 trial without supplying new custody endpoints.
