Biography
Black ex-serviceman arrested in 1970 and convicted of killing a New York policeman during a robbery, sentenced to 25 years to life; The Black Panther Vol. 14 no.1 (1975) reports he was beaten and identified through suggestive lineups, that a recanting witness admitted lying, and that his defense committee sought a new trial.
The enlarged original September 22, 1975 Black Panther letter dates King’s arrest to May 18, 1970. This refines the existing year-only arrest date. The letter’s allegations about police abuse and witness identification are attributed defense claims. Its discussion of conviction is not used to replace the separately recorded sentencing date, and this 1975 source supplies no later physical discharge.
