Biography

Daniel J. Schmidt was a World War I conscientious objector who refused military service and was court-martialed and confined at the Fort Leavenworth Disciplinary Barracks in Kansas. The archival compilation places him in Group 1, the objectors previously recommended for furlough by the Board of Inquiry.

Daniel J. (Dan A.?) Schmidt was a Mennonite conscientious objector from Kansas imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth.
