Daniel Edmund Duggan
Biography
Daniel “Dan” Edmund Duggan is an Australian citizen and former U.S. Marine Corps pilot who has been held in maximum-security custody in New South Wales since Australian police arrested him on October 21, 2022 at the request of the United States. A U.S. indictment alleges that he conspired to violate arms-export laws, defraud the United States, and launder money in connection with training Chinese military pilots in South Africa. Duggan denies the allegations, says he trained civilian pilots, and argues that the prosecution is political. Australia approved his extradition in December 2024. On April 16, 2026, the Federal Court of Australia dismissed his challenge to that decision; the Australian government said he would remain in extradition custody until surrender to the United States. His custody is therefore Australian detention directly resulting from a U.S. prosecution, rather than an Australian criminal charge.
