Biography

Dámaso Serrano López was mayor of Vieques when he joined civil disobedience against U.S. Navy bombing exercises. In testimony recorded by the Puerto Rico Senate, he dated his arrest in the firing range to April 30, 2001. He began a four-month federal prison sentence on August 14, 2001 and left MDC Guaynabo on December 11, 2001. Contemporary coverage reports 120 days served. The period between the initial arrest and prison admission is not counted as continuous confinement.
