Biography

Charles T. McCumber was a New York Anti-Renter convicted of second-degree robbery and sentenced to seven years in state prison; his case apparently arose from a separate Anti-Rent confrontation rather than the killing of Undersheriff Steele. He was freed by Governor John Young's mass Anti-Rent pardon on January 27, 1847.
