Biography

Charles Croix authored the first-person account The Students Invade Kentucky and led the second student bus. The account describes deputies and coal-company gunmen taking control of the bus, compelling it toward Tennessee, and attacking students when the author protested their continued control after crossing the state line. Croix was physically thrown out, struck with a gun and kicked; Lash fought through deputies and joined him outside. Officials threatened to withhold the leaders unless the other students complied, then sent the delegation back toward Knoxville. This was actual armed restraint and coercive expulsion, not a demonstrated judicial imprisonment or conviction. No exact day or measured custody total is supplied. The printed name is retained without an unsupported expansion.
