Biography
Carole A. Graves led the Newark Teachers Union during the 1970 and 1971 strikes. The Militant reported that she and two fellow union leaders were jailed from March 4 to April 14, 1971. The Daily Register reported her release on February 13, 1972, after completing a separate 77-day term arising from the 1970 strike. These documented stays are distinct from the longer sentences initially imposed. Further confinement mentioned as pending in contemporary reports has not been added to the counter without evidence that it was served.
