Biography
Carlos Bayon was a Grand Island, New York resident arrested on August 1, 2018 after leaving threatening voicemail messages for U.S. Representatives Steve Scalise and Cathy McMorris Rodgers. Bayon said he made the calls to draw attention to the Trump administration's family-separation policy. A federal jury convicted him in August 2019 of two counts of threatening a federal official and two counts of transmitting interstate threats. On November 21, 2019, Judge Lawrence Vilardo sentenced him to concurrent 60-month prison terms followed by one year of supervised release. He was released from federal custody on March 16, 2023.
