Biography

Carl Hampton was the founder and leader of People’s Party II, a Houston Black Power organization allied with the Black Panther Party. The group distributed the Panther newspaper and operated community programs. After weeks of police harassment, officers opened fire on Dowling Street on July 26, 1970 and killed Hampton at age 21. A grand jury declined to indict the officers. The reviewed sources do not show that Hampton was arrested or jailed in connection with this event.
