Biography

Carl Hacker was an Ohio lieutenant-governor candidate whom I. Amter explicitly reports was arrested during a peaceful meeting at Martins Ferry. Amter’s Some Mayors I Have Met, printed in the November 14, 1928 Daily Worker, says he spoke after Hacker’s arrest to defend free speech and assembly. The election context places the account in 1928, but supplies no exact personal incident day, statutory charge, bail, physical release or complete custody duration.
