Biography

C. Louis Alexander was a Black member of the Barberton Unemployed Council. A May 20 Cleveland report attributes to an ILD investigation two police seizures: officers first kidnapped and beat him, drove him outside Barberton and warned him not to return; he returned and joined a delegation protesting to the mayor. Officers then took him from home, beat him to death and threw his body into a lime pit. This is attributed extrajudicial political and racial repression, not a court conviction. Exact incident days are unprinted. The intervening return precludes treating both seizures as a single continuous jail term.
