Brian Kavanagh was a Hartford Catholic Worker arrested in the July 2, 1999 sit-in at Senator Joseph Lieberman's Hartford office to protest U.S. sanctions on Iraq. Sentenced to 30 days.
On July 2, 1999, the Lieberman Five - Hartford Catholic Workers - held a sit-in at Senator Joseph Lieberman's Hartford office to protest U.S. sanctions on Iraq, ringing a bell every twelve minutes for an Iraqi child who had died from sanctions-related malnutrition. Most received 30-day jail sentences served at the Carl Robinson Correctional Institution in Enfield, Connecticut.
2006 detention evidence and its limits
The Easter 2006 Hartford Catholic Worker’s Notes from De Porres House reports that Brian Kavanagh and Jackie Allen-Doucot were arrested and actually held overnight after an anti-torture witness outside the White House. The masthead identifies both members of the Hartford community, and the article names Brian and Jackie in that context. Its only timing is “last month”; because the issue also describes events after Easter and Earth Day, that relative wording is not converted to an assumed numerical admission or release date. This is a distinct 2006 Washington detention, not an extension of Kavanagh’s 1999 Lieberman-office case. One overnight is not proof of a full 24-hour day. Both physical endpoints and an exact day total remain unknown.
