Brendan Hunt

On January 19, 2021 Brendan Hunt, 37, was arrested in Queens, NY for threatening to murder United States officials. He was pursued by the FBI's New York Joint Terrorism Task Force following a January 8, 2021 video he posted calling for an effort to "go back to the U.S. Capitol when all of the Senators and a lot of the Representatives are back there, and this time we have to show up with our guns. And we need to slaughter these motherfuckers" in order to "take America back". Sentenced to 19 months federal prison.

The government’s March 2024 Supreme Court opposition records his FBI arrest on January 19, 2021, correcting the January 18 date previously given here. The jury found one count of threatening members of Congress proved, with a special verdict finding the January 8 video a true threat but not the other three charged statements. The district court imposed 19 months plus three years of supervised release, and the Second Circuit affirmed on September 20, 2023. The government’s request that certiorari be denied was a litigant’s position, not a Supreme Court decision. The brief does not establish an actual release date or 19 months physically served.
