Biography

The Daily Worker of March 6, 1934, page 3, reports that Boykin Queenie of Birmingham was arrested on the allegation that he led a strike of Black Civilian Conservation Corps workers near Tuscaloosa. Its March 5 Birmingham dispatch explicitly places him in Tuscaloosa jail and describes demands by returned strikers for his transfer to Birmingham and unconditional release. The strike protested camp conditions, brutality, racial discrimination and militarization; regular troops were sent against the strikers and 160 youths were discharged. The paper warned of lynching danger. The arrest day, actual transfer or release, final disposition and complete custody duration remain unknown.
