Biography

Bert Seigel was a thirty-seven-year-old Bronx resident remanded to Union County jail on August 25, 1936 pending deportation to Poland after a fraudulent-naturalization conviction. The article says the one-year federal sentence was shortened to seventy days for good behavior. Seigel told authorities that he had previously been imprisoned in Germany during World War I for refusing to fight the United States, where his brother lived. That earlier imprisonment is an attributed claim with no precise dates or measured total. The seventy-day statement is a shortened sentence, not automatically a verified completed service total.
