Biography
Ben Rubin was a Communist Party organizer in Reading, Pennsylvania, a wounded Spanish Civil War veteran, and a 1940 congressional candidate. He was repeatedly prosecuted over signatures on Communist Party nominating petitions. An early report incorrectly said he had already received seventeen years; a correction explained that seventeen years was only the possible cumulative exposure. The surviving judgment imposed concurrent terms of one to two years for perjury, while an election-code sentence was suspended. Whether Rubin entered the county prison and how long he remained there are unresolved.
