Biography

Awais Chudhary was arrested on August 29, 2019 during an FBI operation concerning plans for an ISIS-inspired knife attack in Queens. He pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support and was sentenced on September 23, 2025 to nine years in federal prison.

The complaint sworn August 30, 2019 in No. 19-MJ-778 distinguishes Chudhary’s arrest from the next day’s filing: paragraph 30 says agents arrested him on August 29 as he tried to open a Queens retail delivery locker. The FBI affidavit alleges that he discussed an attack with two undercover officers posing as ISIS supporters, and records that an officer supplied a funded online shopping account and placed proposed items in its cart. The complaint charged attempted material support under 18 U.S.C. § 2339B(a)(1). The affidavit’s allegations and investigative narrative precede his later guilty plea and sentence, which remain recorded separately.
