Arthur Harris

Biography

Arthur Harris was a South Jamaica CORE organizer and member of the Revolutionary Action Movement (RAM). The CORE NYC archive also identifies his later involvement in the Republic of New Afrika. Arrested in the 1967 New York prosecutions, he was tried alongside Herman Ferguson for conspiracy to murder civil rights leaders Roy Wilkins and Whitney Young. They were convicted in June 1968 and sentenced that October. Harris was free on appeal bond before going into exile after the appeal failed. The sentence and subsequent exile do not establish how long he actually spent in jail; his custody endpoints and total time served remain unverified.
