Biography

Reverend Arthur L. Hardge was one of the interfaith Freedom Riders who challenged segregation at the Tallahassee municipal airport. Police arrested him for unlawful assembly on June 16, 1961, and released him on bond the following day. After the riders lost their appeals, Hardge and eight others surrendered at the Leon County jail on August 3, 1964 rather than pay $500 fines. A judge released them on August 6 after they had served four days of their sixty-day sentences.
