Biography
Antonio Alves Perreira was one of three Portuguese mill workers and A Luta anarchist editors arrested at Fall River. Esther Lowell’s July 1926 report says state sedition charges were relinquished, federal officers waited at court with rum-running and anti-alien warrants, and the men were out on $3,000 bail each. An editorial update says the bootlegging accusation had been dropped; threatened anarchist deportation remained a separate issue. The source identifies attorneys Harry Hoffman and Isador S. Levin but gives no actual deportation or exact physical endpoints. Names and portrait order follow the enlarged caption; the prose has spelling variants. Mary de Costa's letter in the April 1927 Labor Defender explicitly reports that the deportation of Antonio da Costa, Antonio Alves Perreira and Diamantino Texeira to Portugal had been completed. She reports confinement and deprivation aboard ship and subsequent imprisonment for several days in Portugal before release through relatives and friends. This confirms completed removal by publication, without an exact sailing date or a continuous United States custody total. The foreign imprisonment is not entered as a new United States case, and the previously documented bail interval remains.
