Biography
Antoine Gazda was an Austrian gun inventor, reported as forty-seven in the March 19, 1942 Pampa News. Citing the New York Herald-Tribune, the newspaper says FBI agents arrested him as an enemy alien in his Waldorf-Astoria hotel suite on December 9, 1941 and held him on Ellis Island for two months. It reports that a local citizens’ alien board paroled him at the Army’s request because his gun-making talent and inventions were considered essential to the war effort, and describes release into War Department custody. No criminal charge or conviction is established, and the report does not give an exact parole date or establish whether subsequent Army supervision involved physical confinement. Its opening paragraph prints Gasda and the second paragraph Gazda; both forms are preserved. Source: https://newspapers.swco.ttu.edu/bitstreams/d6da8406-a13e-4bfd-8634-6cba59fbf35d/download#page=1
