Biography
Anthony Ray Peek was imprisoned on Florida’s death row after a 1978 murder and sexual-battery conviction. His conviction was vacated after the trial court found false expert testimony about hair identification. Following a retrial, the Florida Supreme Court ordered another trial in 1986 because of improperly admitted evidence about a separate offense. The court also documented the trial judge’s disqualification after racial slurs about Peek’s parents. Peek was acquitted on January 19, 1987, but remained imprisoned under separate ordinary convictions; the acquittal did not mean that he left prison.
