Biography

Anthony Paradise was one of the eleven Atmore-Holman Brothers — Alabama prisoners and active members of Inmates for Action (IFA) chosen from an original lot of 45 inmates to face murder and rioting charges stemming from the January 18, 1974 rebellion at Atmore prison, which began as a peaceful demonstration. On June 11, 1974 the presiding judge postponed the trial to September after carloads of supporters streamed into Brewton for the Brothers. Reconstructed from The Black Panther, Vol. XII No. 3 (August 10, 1974); his individual disposition has not been located.

Case

Atmore State Prison
Charges: First-degree murder allegation arising from the March 1974 Holman Prison incident involving Tommy Dotson and a guard
Sentence: No sentence imposed in this prosecution. The Black Panther, March 8, 1975, printed page11, reports that the trial began February14,1975 and the judge directed a not-guilty verdict after contradictory prosecution testimony. The report identifies this charge as first-degree murder arising from a March1974 Holman Prison incident involving Tommy Dotson and a guard, distinct from the January18 uprising charges against other defendants. This disposition does not establish physical release from pre-existing imprisonment. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/black-panther/13%20no%203%201-28%20mar%208%201975.pdf#page=11
