Biography

Anthony Miller was a prisoner spokesman during the July 21, 1976 metal-shop takeover at Waupun State Prison. A contemporary Worker report describes the prisoners’ demands against harassment, punitive isolation, prison labor conditions and inadequate medical care. It says that, after the administration’s promise of no reprisals, prisoners were locked down the following Sunday and singled out for solitary confinement over the next few days. Twelve guards came to Miller’s cell and took him to the hole. This personally identified prison-rights activity and subsequent punishment establish actual custody lasting more than a day; his original conviction and custody endpoints remain unestablished.
