Biography
Anne Herman was a teacher and human-rights activist associated with the Zachaeus Catholic Worker House in Binghamton. Jailed in 1998 following the School of the Americas protest at Fort Benning.
Life-date sources
- Press & Sun-Bulletin obituary — reports that Anne Herman died on November 22, 2007 at age 74 and identifies the Binghamton peace and human-rights activist and mother of six.
- Clinton Presidential Library clemency file — identifies Herman as age 64 when she entered prison on January 30, 1998. Together, the two dated age reports establish 1933 as her birth year; the month and day remain undocumented.
Collective prison-reporting heading conflicts with an individual record
The May 1998 newsletter’s twenty-person SOA address roster includes Anne Herman, register88104-020, at FCI Danbury, under a collective heading saying the listed prisoners reported on March 23,1998. The existing biography cites an individual Clinton Presidential Library clemency file identifying Herman’s January 30,1998 prison entry, and the current case preserves that date with a July 27 release. The collective March heading therefore conflicts with the individual record; it is not treated as a new second admission or used to overwrite the individualized chronology. The earlier November 19 sentencing entry is likewise not replaced with the January 21 date of the collective court article. The discrepancy is preserved explicitly for source reconciliation.

Counsel’s April 27, 1998 clemency petition identifies the November 19, 1997 no-contest plea and six-month sentence with a $3,000 fine. It individually confirms prison entry on January 30, 1998. The biography describes her teaching, paralegal and social-service work, and residence at the Zachaeus Catholic Worker House in Binghamton. These records concern a request for clemency; they do not establish that a pardon or commutation was granted.
