Biography

Alton Lawrence was state secretary of the Socialist Party in North Carolina. The Daily Worker of September 8, 1934, pages 1–2, reports him among thirty-four textile-strike pickets jailed at High Point on charges of forcible trespass, with bail demanded at $500 each. The report supplies no exact arrest day, sentence or release date. This organizer is kept distinct from the existing Alton Lawrence of Bessemer, Alabama, involved in a 1959 Mine-Mill affidavit prosecution; an individual identity link between those records has not been established.
