Biography

Allen Johnson was named in the March 14, 1932 Daily Worker appeal for the imprisoned Kentucky National Miners Union strike cohort. The report explicitly says the later group, including Mason, Yeary, Roberts and Johnson, had been sent to Pineville or Middlesboro after the January 4 headquarters arrests and was among nineteen prisoners still confined in the district. It describes a labor-defense campaign against their prosecution and poor jail conditions. The source does not assign this individual a particular admission day, distinguish Pineville from Middlesboro, or establish physical discharge or a complete term. The announced May 26 trial was still in the future. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1932/v09-n062-NY-mar-14-1932-DW-LOC.pdf#page=5

The March 11 dispatch places these five strike supporters in Middlesboro jail and reports concern about transfer to Pineville. It distinguishes them from Joe Yeary, actually released March 10 on $1,000 bond. No physical release, completed sentence or measured total for these five is established. The chronology printed March 12, 1932 explicitly dates the arrest of Daily Worker correspondent Allan Johnson with Joe Chandler at Middlesboro to March 5. The page 2 March 11 dispatch, spelling his name Allen Johnson, places him in Middlesboro jail and describes a threatened transfer to Pineville. This refines the arrest date within the existing Kentucky case; it does not prove physical jail-admission or transfer dates or a release. The April 15, 1932 Knoxville dispatch printed April 18 names Allan Johnson among the Pineville prisoners actually released on bond that day. This supplies a documented April 15 release for the existing Kentucky detention; it is not the April 18 publication day and does not establish a final acquittal or a separately reported completed duration.
