Biography

Alice Evans wrote a first-person account of Chicago’s South Side that describes her own arrest during the August 1935 demonstration in defense of Ethiopia. She says police took the demonstrators to the Wabash Avenue station and describes six hours crowded in a cell with other women. This is an attributed eyewitness account; the retrospective reference does not provide an exact arrest day or final charge. Daily Worker, June 23, 1936, page 5.
