Biography

Alexander Darin, local organizer of Friends of the Soviet Union in Chicago, was arrested with John Davis June 20, 1933 when police broke up an open-air meeting at Lawrence and Spaulding. Police kicked away his speaking box, clubbed him and brought both to the station. After a night in jail they appeared before Judge Haas; Darin protested denial of access to his attorney. Both were released pending a trial scheduled July 7. June 21 release is normalized from the explicit June 20 arrest and following-morning appearance.
