Biography

Albert Simmons was one of five members of a Cincinnati unemployed-workers’ relief delegation arrested on October 25, 1934. The Daily Worker, October 31, 1934, page 3 describes an armed attack on the delegation at the Welfare Department and the subsequent police arrests. It reports a assault and battery charge and collective bail of $1,300, raised the next day, with trial planned for the coming Friday. Raising bail does not establish the day of physical release; no final verdict or exact served duration is supplied. He is distinct from the much later School of the Americas Watch activist Albert L. Simmons.
