Biography
Abe Ozaranski was held in Multnomah County Jail on criminal-syndicalism charges during the Portland prosecutions of 1930–31. The Daily Worker of March 4, 1931, page 3, datelined Portland March 2, names him with Bill Oral, Jim Howell, Ellis Bjorkman, Dan Stoeff and Rubin Sandstrom as released late that day without bail. It says the ILD had pressed for trials of jailed defendants before those on bail, after which the state released these six so it could proceed with Fred Walker. The report establishes actual release on March 2 but no exact arrest/admission day, conviction or completed custody total. His printed first name is not expanded.
The Portland November 7 dispatch reports Ozaranski, a Seattle worker, arrested for selling the Daily Worker and held in jail three days without a charge being lodged, beaten for not answering police questions. These three days were an ongoing detention at reporting time, not a completed total. The later independently reported March 2, 1931 release is retained.
