Biography
Abdullah Malik Ka’bah, born Jeff Fort on February 20, 1947 in Aberdeen, Mississippi, moved with his family to Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood as a child. He co-founded the Blackstone Rangers and later led the Black P. Stone Nation. After converting to Islam, he adopted the name Malik and organized El Rukn. Fort was already serving a federal drug sentence when prosecutors charged him and other El Rukn members with offering to commit attacks in the United States in exchange for money and weapons from Libya. A federal jury convicted him in 1987 of conspiracy, weapons, and related telephone counts; the court imposed an 80-year sentence on December 28, 1987, consecutive to his existing drug term. An Illinois jury later convicted him of ordering the 1981 murder of Willie Bibbs and added a consecutive 75-year sentence. He is held at ADX Florence under stringent communication restrictions.
1980s custody-date correction
The Seventh Circuit opinion in United States v. McAnderson establishes that July 31, 1986 was Alan Knox's purchase of an inoperative rocket, not Jeff Fort's arrest or prison admission. Fort was already serving a separate sentence at Bastrop beginning in 1984 and remained on that sentence when the conspiracy sentence was imposed. The erroneous July 31 arrest/admission dates and derived day count have therefore been removed from this conspiracy case. The 1984 admission to his earlier sentence is not reassigned to this later prosecution; its own admission endpoint remains unresolved.
